Ok. Let’s get started building a 6.5 Creedmoor Remington 700!
First we need to blue print the action.
Now we need to set up for barrel work.
First, I set up using my Mitutoyo .0005 test indicator to true the bore axis to the lathe.
Next we cut the barrel thread. Remington 700 action have a thread diameter of 1.0625x16tpi.
Next we cut the threads. Remington 700 threads are cut at 60 degrees with 16tpi. Unfortunately, I didn’t get pictures of that process!
After the threads have been cut and the counter bore cut for bolt clearance, the barrel is chambered, in this case to 6.5 Creedmoor.
Now the chamber is sanded and the rims slightly round to facilitate easy loadimg and extraction of ammunition. All that is left is to put the firearm together. The Choate thumbhole stock really looks nice on this build!
Looking nice!
Hope you enjoyed seeing us building a 6.5 creedmoor Remington 700.
